Colin's how to connect to Freeserve using DOIP page

Lots of people seem to have problems with DOIP in connecting to their Internet provider.

I've only ever used two and never had problems with DOIP connecting to either.  It's free and does the job for me.

Here is a file (1219 bytes) which tells you how to connect to the Compuserve ISP service using DOIP.  Works for me.  Read it carefully.

Here's how to connect to Freeserve (a UK ISP).  Hopefully the instructions are generic enough to get you going for any ISP.  Most ISPs nowadays are no help at all for OS/2 users.  The information you need either has to be dug out from newsgroups or by pretending that you're a Linux user........

Here we go.  All I needed for DOIP was the following information:-

The phone number (obviously)
A userid and password (see above)
The DNS IP address of the ISP
The Domain Name of the ISP.

I have only needed to fill in the first two pages of DOIP - screen shots below and all works fine.

Notice that I have changed the default Connection Type from SLIP to PPP as well.

And that's it.  Freeserve do have three DNS IP addresses and Windows seems to be able to flip between them if there are problems.  DOIP can only accept one, but the Primary IP address has not let me down yet.  YMMV.

Email me if you want some more information.
