I'm no artist. If you want drawing tools, I'm afraid I can't
help you. If you need to grab a copy of what's on screen and get
it into documents, then you're in the right place.
Two tools make this easy - PM Camera and PM View.
PM Camera (here - 155173 bytes) is an IBM written bit of software dating from 1995. It's quite a simple app - all it does is intercept the Print Screen key and take a copy of the whole scree, your rectangular selection of the screen or the current active window. You can then save this into the clipboard, as a .BMP file, as a Postscript file or as a PSEG38PP files (generally for IBM BookMaster - not something you'll see too often........). It increments the filename automatically if you're saving a .BMP file and generally looks after things for you.
It requires OS/2 2.0 upwards and, er, that's it. I've tried other screen capturing programs, but keep coming back to this one. It has never let me down yet.
I guess the only problem I have with PM Camera is that the files can only be saved in .BMP format which are quite large. This is where PM View comes in.
PM View is the best image manipulation program for OS/2 full-stop. Again, it's a nice simple application which does what it says it does and doesn't try to be anything else. Good thumbnails of files before you open them. You don't even need to open them before you convert them - a simple rightmouse button is all that's required.
All I do for these web pages is capture the screen image with PM Camera and convert the .BMP file to a .JPG file with PM View. It takes about 30 seconds. Again, I've tried other file conversion apps, but I always come back to PM View. The current release is 1.05 (shareware) and a beta of 2.0 has been around for some time to registered users.
The only thing that I can't do elegantly in PMView is view animated .GIFs - you have to use Alt+PgUp or Alt+PgDn to move between frames. Also, I do not seem to be able to stitch .GIFs together to create an animated .GIF file. I am aware of other programs that will, but I've never needed to be able to create one so I can't recommend one.
Email me if you want some more information.
